So, aside from being consciously aware of the telltale signs of carrying and avoiding the giveaways, what are the best ways to carry to avoid detection?

Invest in good quality holsters to decrease the odds conspicuous movements.

The best plan is "Symmetrical Redundancy"
.....Carry TWO pistols.

I do one of those things, which is when I'm running, I always hold it tight to me.

Didn't your mother warn you about running with guns?

i have found the smaller guns eliminate a lot of the issues

i mostly carry a Kahr PM9 in a upper leather jacket inside pocket and i have no issues with it showing or bulging etc the leather jacket is lined so i am sure that helps, it also carrys well in a pocket holster in loose fitting pants or shorts its like carrying a standard wallet in your frount pocket and prints that way too

i only carry a larger heavier gun ie a ruger sp101 when i am wearing more bulky clothing

a larger gun would have to have a belt or armpit holster

i havent had much luck with ankle holsters they tend to show if anyone is looking....boots would cure that issue

curious to see how others are dealing with this issue

Years ago I knew a guy who was a retired army officer.

He was an insurance salesman and slum landlord. He always wore a sport coat and carried a 1911 in the small of his back under the coat.

I never knew he carried until the day he chose to reveal it to me.

Not bad information being thrown about here.

The most dangerous weapon; be it a handgun or a knife is the one that goes undetected. The nastiest is a POS .25 or .32 that is so tiny and small, that when it does get pulled leaves you dead or crippled.

Watch the HANDS first, then the eyes. The hands can't do a thing until the brain sends the command. Watch the frigging hands.

I've told a million guys over the years, 'when you are approached by someone or you approach someone or a group of someones, your brain ought to be screaming, (what are the HANDS, HANDS,HANDS, doing?). A gun can't hurt you. A hand on a gun can kill you.

HANDS, HANDS,HANDS.

Yea you know what they say a hand with a gun is worth more than two hands on the shelf without a gun. :)

I know of two separate cases where the CCW holders who carried this way ended up with broken lumbar vertebrae when they were surprised by a perp and ended up on the ground via their backs. Landing on your back against a piece of steel.......which do you think will fail first?

After printing issues and an actual (noticed) unblousing of my cover shirt, I went to the pocket carry method about seven years ago. While your carry piece options are more limited, it does not get any more discreet (even while wearing shorts) and many potential threats who thought I had my hand in my pocket never really knew just how high my Cooper Color Code really was. The only downside to this carry method is that pocket carry is not quite as fast to presentation if you are caught completely off guard or while sitting. Just as with all other CCW carry methods, wardrobe is the key word. Bx3

I ankle carry for a number of reasons, but this is #1.

I know some people swear against ankle, but after some practice running, I got my gait corrected.

Thanks for the info!

I don't do any of those. I simply keep both hands down my pants to keep my Sig in my ITWB holster in place. Nobody notices....

I have a wallet holster for my P32 and P3AT. No one seems to ever notice it's not really a wallet I'm carrying. It doesn't affect the way that I walk or move. This is a link to the site I got it from. http://www.pocketholsters.com/Kel-Te...t_holster.html
